35 Minutes

35 Minutes

35 minutes is all it took.

We launched a site tonight that we've been redoing for a client. His previous site (not done by us) hasn't made any sales for at least 6 months.

We redid it and launched today.

35 minutes later the site had its first sale.

Developing sites that work is what web development is all about. Not only does a site have to look good, it has to provide the right solution for the visitor.

Only then is it an asset and not an expense.

Edit added 20/5/05:

It's now been 17 hours since the site launched and it's made 3 sales.

Regards

Brendon

So, what did you buy ;-)
Yes what you usually call a test to see if all the functions are working. We do it too. But usually we do it before we launch the site. The marketing guy published the web site before the tester finished his complete series of tests in this case. Exactly 35 minutes before ;-).
Well, actually, John, my comment was really tongue-in-cheek.

I think it's definitely possible to get a sale so quickly on a redesigned site (if you improve the usability). It would be a bit difficult on a brand new site, but on a redesigned site, it's possible.
It's not because the previous site didn't get any sale before that it didn't get any visitors...
Oh no, there onto us!

I'm sure there are many people who would try that old trick! The site gets 40 visitors a day so we're expecting at least 2 sales a day straight off.

The previous site was so bad that it took 2 minutes (click through 3 pages and waiting for long load times) to find the price of the item.

We put the price on the top of the Home Page. And cut the Home Page from 25 seconds on a 56k modem to just 10.

It's easy to make sales.

Cheers

Brendon
