Controversy Works - How To Sell A Lot Of Books
Controversy Works - How To Sell A Lot Of BooksHere in Australia we'd had a retired politician write his memoirs. Specifically, these were the diary entries of a guy called Mark Latham.
Mark was the Leader of the Labour Party - he was up for election as the Australian Prime Minister last year. he lost and then retired.
Now these sort of books are basically a snore fest. You read it and fall asleep. Political memoirs aren't exactly thrilling.
But this one is different.
It's aggressive and controversial (and that's just the extracts I've read!).
Everyone Gets A Bucketing
In his book and the interviews he's had so far, Mark lets loose. He very honestly and openly provides his opinion - and his opinions are shared very forcefully.
And with the controversy has come the best publicity for a book I've seen for a political figure.
This will be, without question, the biggest selling book by a retired politician here in Australia ever. Controversy works. Mark's publishers must be rubbing their hands together with glee.
Have a good weekend.
Brendon
