Why We Share So Much Information
Why We Share So Much InformationHaving written the kit, writing the SitePoint Tribune newsletter, doing the radio show, writing this blog (and others) I'm often asked why I give away so much information (not that the kit is free!).
We spend a lot of time here in the office keeping up with (especially) the latest in web usability and search engine optimisation (which simply means developing a web page so it comes up high in the search engines).
And we share that information quite freely (we don't share it all, but I'd guess we share 90% of what we learn).
And I saw it written the other day how I see it.
They're Not Our Competition, They're Our Community
I don't see other web firms or developers as our competition. I see them as our community.
I get that sense much more with search engine optimisation (SEO) specialists than with web designers. SEO is such a hard and never-ending process that I find it very reassuring to know I have other SEO colleagues to bounce ideas off when the time comes.
It's that sense of sharing and that sense of community that gives me hope for the future for the entire web development industry.
Regards
Brendon
