A Better Missing Page

A Better Missing Page

A lot of people find missing pages on web sites.

What they find when they get there varies from site to site.

Many times the person sees an 'error' page (below).

Sometimes the person will see a customised missing page - click here for ours.

The Worst That Can Happen

The worst that can happen when someone finds an error page is that they immediately leave the site never to return.

The best thing that can happen is that the person figures out how to find the page they're really looking for and stays on your site.

Here's How To Increase The Chances Of Successfully Keeping Your Visitor Who Finds A 'Missing' Page
  • Customise your 'error' page so that it informs your visitor of what has just happened
  • Customise your error page so that it holds your visitors interest and encourages them to take positive action (that you direct them to) - our error page is meant to be funny
  • List easy ways for the visitor to find what they're looking for
  • Say sorry and take the blame
  • Pop a small script on error pages alerting you to any error pages and telling you where they originated from (so that if it's a bad/old link for example, you can fix it quickly and easily)
Some quick and easy ways to make it a better visitor experience on your web site. Hope they help.

Cheers

Brendon
