How To Get Re-Listed In Google When Your Site Has Been Banned
How To Get Re-Listed In Google When Your Site Has Been BannedWe've been doing a little search engine work on a client site when we noted that the site was deleted from the Google index.
"Banned" might be a better word - it appeared to happen because of a duplication penalty from Google (the site had other related domains redireting directly to it. It appeared Google saw those redirects as duplicate sites for some reason. I hadn't seen exactly that happen before, but it appeared to be the issue.).
Getting Re-Included In Google
Anyway, this is what we did to get the ban taken off and the site re-included in Google (which is pretty vital for any site's search engine strategy).
We did a simple re-inclusion request by filling in this form here and sending it in.
From Google Engineer Matt Cutt's blog: "You can select “I’m a webmaster inquiring about my website” and then select “Why my site disappeared from the search results or dropped in ranking.
Click Continue, and on the page that shows up, make sure to type “Reinclusion Request” in the subject line of the resulting form. Upper- or lower-case doesn’t matter, but make sure you use the words “reinclusion request” in the subject line so it gets routed to the right place."
A week or so later and the site was back in the index.
That's great work by Google - I can't imagine how many requests they would get from web developers.
The Takeaway
The takeaway from this is that if your site is banned by Google, it can be a simple matter to fix up the issue and get that much needed green light for reinclusion.
I gotta say, I was surprised how quickly Google responded.
