How To Eat Like A Pig & Lose 2 Kgs! I Call It The "Stupid Diet"!

This morning I cycled 100+ km (62 miles). This is what I learnt.

1. A $15,000 bike still needs a fit rider (my bike, bless her old heart, is a 12 year old Avanti - the old girl cost me $1,200 back in 94 and still chugs along just fine).

At the risk of sounding like an ad, the Avanti is a great bike that has been incredibly durable and has worked beautifully over many thousands of kilometres.

That's me on her to the left during an Ironman Triathlon.

And no, she doesn't have a name. I call her "Darling!.

2. When you're exercising for 4 hours + in 28 degrees C (82.4 F) heat you need to eat and drink lots. This is what I consumed on the ride:
  • 1.5 litres (50 ounces) of water
  • 2 Hammer Gels (right)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 pieces of raisin toast (with butter and honey - yummm!)
  • 900 mls Orange Juice (30 ounces)
  • 600 mls (20 ounces Coke)
  • 200 mls Gatorade

Still I Lost 2 Kgs


When I started the bike ride I weighed 85.5 kgs (188 lbs). When I finished I weighed 83.5 kgs (184 lbs).

The temperature was about 28 degrees C (82.4 F) for the duration of the ride.

And for any bike riders from the Gold Coast reading, my mate and I (no, he doesn't have the $15,000 bike) went:
  • up over Tomewin Rd (a legendary huge hill),
  • into the beautiful town of Murwillumbah,
  • then Tumbulgum (has the most beautiful hotel in Australia right on the river),
  • then Cudgen,
  • Kingscliff (had breakfast at Dots By The Sea) and
  • back into the Gold Coast.

All For The Sydney To Surfers Bike Ride

All this so I'm fit enough for the Sydney To Surfers (about 1,000 km bike ride) in March.

The 2 Main Lessons

# 1: Even if you have the right equipment you still need the knowledge and/or skills to make it work. Just because I have a nice computer doesn't mean I'm good at computer programming (but Anthony is!)

# 2: Without the right information and resources you cannot effectively reach your goals. I obviously need education on sports nutrition - before I either fade away to nothing or collapse from dehydration.
