Case Study Part 3 - How To Get To The Top Of The Search Engines

It's been 19 days since we started work to get decent search engine rankings for Belfast web design firm Inspired eBusiness.

And already we've gained 406 spots! We're now # 20 for "web design Belfast".
Here's Part 3 in the video series.

Certainly making an improvement over the first few, B.

I note that in addition to the extremely distracting lack of sync between video and audio mentioned earlier (and endemic, apparently with YouTube) there is a distinct jarring change between the sound of your voice when you are on camera and when you are "talking over" slides. Two different mics I would wager. Your voice on camera is pleasant and understandable, when it switches to the slide views it goes up several octaves in pitch and sounds so heavily accented it becomes difficult to get the message across.

Good info there, though, and I think there's a lot to be learned from this experiment, thanks.

(oh and now that Seamus has jumped that far in the rankings has he noticed a difference in traffic/referrals on his site ... after all the reason we say we do this stuff is to increase business ;-))
I've now got you at #11, as per my search this evening. Go site go!
Couple of interesting observations on Seamus's site and rankings.

As of about 10:00am Friday, Belfast time (8 pm of Brendon's time I am getting a position 11 also using "Belfast Web Design" in Google. In Yahoo at the same time it comes up number 10 so good on you both, it's no fluke.

Now on the main Google SERPs page what should be the first two or three 'real" results are taken up by a nice mapping application served up by; http://maps.google.co.uk/maps
and apparently driven by the local Yellow Pages publisher? This map 'steals' several results and appears be strictly driven by the distance a business is from Belfast City center (or centre if you will). Possibly Seamus doesn't use Yellow page advertising ... I never did in the US ... but it's a though for anyone who is going to be competing for web search results with essentially paid map clients.

Second I notice on Seamus's site his complete contact info, which is good. I seldom do business with anyone who is too devious not to have a physical address. But if you follow the trail with Google maps there may be more specific data being shown that Seamus really wishes to show.

A thought that could combat both issues is ... do a cost benefit think-through on a "virtual office" or "mail receiving" service in the heart of the city and the cheapest Yellow pages ad that will get "on the map".

How's that for thinking through "off page" optimization factors?
