From # 426 To # 11 In Google - In 24 Days
Case Study Part 4 - How To Get To The Top Of The Search EnginesIt's been 24 days since we started work to get decent search engine rankings for Belfast web design firm Inspired eBusiness.
And now we're number 11 in Google.com.
(Note: Depending on various factors, you might see the site at anywhere between # 11 and 19).
Here's Part 4 In The Video Series
================================
As I mention in the video, Seamus' rankings went up BFEORE Google had even looked at his site:

Subject: Interesting analysis ahead
Hello Seamus
Here's an interesting one.
Your site has increased from # 496 to 175 for 'web design belfast'.
The interesting bit is that Google.com/webmasters tells us the site hasn't been indexed since Feb 6.
And the title tag showing is the old title tag.
Which is consistent with the site not being indexed since Feb 6.
Conclusion
Whilst Google hasn't spidered your Home Page it appears it has counted the new links and given you a boost because of them.
So more links with the keyword/phrase in the anchor text (words we use to link to your site) = higher ranking for the keyword/phrase even though Google has no idea what's on the page.
So, in theory (and in practice) anchor text impacts very strongly on search engine rankings.
And when Google spiders the Home Page your ranking will get another huge boost (I'd think top 50).

There is nothing better in work life for geek marketers than big jumps. So satisfying when quality tested theories and hard work pays off.
I just scored Google front page results for the insanely competitive term australian domain names with the web site of my now sold business that I am two days away from receiving final payment for. Sort of bad timing that I won't get to profit from these new customers but it is great to see how quickly new orders come in with a higher SERPs position.
The top ranking site FRONT has listings in all these.
Any reason for this or have you just not got round to them yet.
Yep Tom, I reckon it would be the links that have given you your boost. It's a fantastic design.
And yes Paul, we'll be adding to the bigger places shortly. Don't know if DMOZ is worth it anymore?? And I could be old before the review gets done!
Cheers

The business.com link is $199 per annum! I understand that theoretically you can make your money back from there very quickly. My question is about the business model of business.com listings. Is that link so valuable because of the relatively high barrier to list? Or is there something else to the equation?
The value comes from a variety of factors, with the main 2 being:
Trusted domain
Human edited
The cost also keeps crappy sites out and thus the value of a link from their is increased.
