Even Absolute Crap Gets A Run - Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton

I wrote below how it's great for your business to have an interesting story - after all, that might get you some good quality publicity.

Here is a great example that newspaper run absolute crap - Australian make-up guru to get Paris 'prison ready'

Some guy who sells cosmetics is sending Paris Hilton some free products. She probably won't even get them.

Just Mention Paris

But he doesn't care - he got what he wanted by mentioning her name: a bit of media coverage from a media so celebrity obsessed that they'll print any stuff that mentions Ms Hilton.

Appalling - but a great example that a good quality story has a great chance of getting some publicity.....Because if this stupid story gets a run just about anything can get a run.

This is one of the oldest PR tricks in the book. Attach yourself to a story or subject that is dominating the news, the more controversial the better.

It can also be applied to internet publishing because these same terms result in lots of searches.

The downside, in both cases, is that a large percentage of the audience seeing your name isn't really all that targeted. In this case, the readers are likely to be more interested in Paris Hilton than her makeup.
