Crane Business Just Like Any Other Business

Just back from a few days away in Melbourne with a mate (Dave) who has a mobile crane hire business in Melbourne. We recently completed a site for him - that's it on the left, below.

Had a great time - we caught up with our old high school football coach and school teacher Peter Symons for a meal and a game of football.

I tried to get Peter to say what a great player I used to be but he held out valiantly! Maybe because I was crap??

Crane Business Just Like Any Other Business

What struck me about Dave's crane business is that it's just like any other business.
  • It's all about getting out there and selling.
  • It's all about making contacts.
  • It's all about relationship building.
Whether your selling web sites, crane hire, donuts, cars, houses, etc - the fact is you're selling.

Cheers

Hi Brendon,

I hope alot of web designers read this post for the meaning behind it. In my personal observation and lot of web entrepreneurs get themslevs in a mode of being too focussed on the web itself.

A great many opportunities lie in those ears which aren't immediately thought of along with the web. This is a great, untapped resource ... learn something about the ins and outs of a non-web business and "webify" it.
A while ago my dear old dad was looking to impart some of his infinite wisdom.

He asked me what business I was in. I said "I'm in the web design business. I help businesses, who can sell online, to get online."

He replied "Your wrong!".

He said "Your in the business of lodging money. Wherever it comes from, look at every opportunity no matter how relevant you may first think it is!"

Ahhh my dear old dad.
I think we need to go one-step further and that is that " Everyday life itself is about selling". You sell yourself in the form of a resume, you sell ideas to your mate (Honey, I think the big screen tv will make the house more cozy!) etc. Throughout the day I find myself selling something, either tangible or intangible.

If we go through life understanding that, I think we will be able to get more things done.

Cheers
