Want TV Commercials On The Gold Coast....Or Singapore?

A few years back I met David Simpson - David makes TV commercials here on the Gold Coast and is highly regarded as one of the best operators in the business.

I first met David when we were judging TV commercials at a Gold Coast school's Business Week - we sat through some terrific TV commercials put together by the kids (and a couple that weren't so great!).

I was chatting with David today and he was telling me how much things have changed over the years - now, he even gets approaches from Singapore and Vietnam for work.

All because of the web and the ease of transferring digital content.

Remember, your market isn't just a 10km radius around your office anymore. It can easily be worldwide.

Brendon

P.S: Check out David's showreel of TV commercials done for Gold Coast companies.

Interesting marketing lesson here on a semi-tangent. With the caveat that this is the view of an outsider, who can only form his opinions from the outside looking in, the very thought that a company in Queensland is marketing themselves in a segment like Singapore is noteworthy.

I'm an American who lives in the Philippines. Along with TV from many other countries I get the Australian ABC on my cable system. Yesterday I noticed a big-bucks commercial from a Sydney investment firm touting the tax advantages for Australians to live/invest in Asia.

The same advantages quoted, particularly in tax savings, apply to Americans yet I consider the chance of seeing such a commercial in the US perishingly small.

It wasn't many years ago that the rest of the world would have considered Australia a very insular country ... totally ignoring their locations in such close proximity to expanding markets in Asia. Not any more ... Kudos to Australia for waking up to the fact that the world is round, and it gets smaller ever day.

Now it's my own country that is mired in an isolationist world view. The US financial news is much more likely to be bemoaning the loss of low-pay jobs overseas than it is to figure out how much money (and high pay jobs) there is to be made from those off-shore ventures and other forms of globalization.

If the Web is an important part of your business, these thoughts apply doubly.
