Don't Lose Sight Of The End Goal

Don't lose sight of your goal.
I was reminded of this today when Sue's online personal training business hit # 1 on Google (that' Sue on the right).
Sue mentioned that her site now gets a lot of people saying "Heh, I found you via a Google search."
That's great news for Sue. She can help more people get fit, lose weight and achieve what they want to achieve. She offers an amazing service by the way.
Today I saw a couple of people found me via this forum post.
Richard, who has a Melbourne website business, recommended me in the post.
But then others had a go at me/this site because it didn't look great.
That doesn't matter.....that this site doesn't look great.
This Site Does What It Is Meant To Do
Because this site does what it is meant to do.
Which is help potential clients find us. And help potential clients see what we're about.
And get those same potential clients contact us.
Remember this about your web site design: It's not about how pretty it is.
It's how effective it is.
Cheers
Brendon

I just saw this post in my feedreader.
My first answer to people who ask "How can I create a Google-friendly site?" is to refer them through to that exact google page:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=40349&topic=8522
Then I tell them to check their site using a text browser, such as Lynx .. exactly as google does.
I have to say though that nowadays I think you can have your cake & eat it too .. a site can still be highly effective & accessible & still look nice.
