How To Run Faster & The Law Of Reciprocity
On Sunday, my wife and I, and our 3 children (Laura, Jack & Harry), competed in a 5 km Fun Run at a place called Sanctuary Cove. For my wife (Mel), it was her 2nd ever race.
- She smashed her previous 5 km time by a massive 6 minutes.
- Laura beat her previous 5 km best time by 3 minutes.
- Jack smashed his best time by 3 /12 minutes (that was after he rode the 40 kms to the race on a bike).
- Harry beat his time by about 3 minutes.
- I beat my last 5 km race time by 7 minutes.
Pretty easy really. We trained for the race. A little bit most days and we were fitter, stronger and faster.
It's the same with this blog - a little bit each and every day and before you know it you've written close on 1,700 posts.
Plus it helps training 3 times a week with the best personal trainers on the Gold Coast!
Loyalty 101
You might remember, from this post, that during a Fun Run with the same organisers back in October, I won the major prize of a 5 night stay at a health retreat.
Mel is off to the Golden Door Health Retreat at the end of the week - as a result of that win she is fiercely loyal to the race organisers.
We had to stay to the very end of this race's presentation, not only in the hope of winning, but because she wanted to be seen to be supporting the race organisers to the very end.
The Law of Reciprocity
It's a classic marketing technique called the Law of Reciprocity.
Basically, you do something nice for someone and they will almost always feel obliged to return the favour.
Basically, if you're nice, kind and giving, others will be nice, kind and giving back.
Cheers
Brendon
