Where To Find Great Business Advice
I see this one a lot.The new kid on the block decides to start up his own business and gets advice from the usual quarters:
- Mum
- Dad
- Friends
Mum & Dad Have No Idea
Mum and Dad will tell you what you want to hear and your friends will either hope you fail or have no idea!

Lawyers (that's mine on the right), accountants and bankers - good for legal, accounting and banking advice......but often they have their best interests (i.e. ability to charge you) at heart, not yours.
If you're starting up or running a web development business then the best people to get a load of great business advice from is other web developers.
- Pick up the phone and call a few.
- Tell them you're about to start up in business.
- Ask if you can get together for a coffee or lunch.
A Huge Headstart
But you'll find a few like-minded web developers who will have a chat. And the info they can give you will provide a huge headstart to your business career.
After all, they've faced the exact same problems that you're about to encounter. Their words are gold.
Aside from other web developers, the next best people for providing business advice are other small businesspeople - the butcher, the baker, the candle-stick maker.
Small businesspeople have real-life experience of being at the coalface of business - when they talk business, it pays to listen.
Now go and make some calls.

Yhe idea that the competition is your enemy and someone to hide from is self-limiting. Meeting your competition and sharing experiences is bound to net dividends ... I certainly would be nowhere near as far along my own path if it wasn't for many great people who are technically my "competitors" but much more like feinds and mentors. Sometimes the competitor may have clients s/he can't stand that they refer to you ... even if _they_ think the cluient is a dud it might turn out to be agood deal for you ... what cna it cost you, the price of a lunch?
Hope you are well.
One other aspect I see that I believe limits people is when women join the "women only" networking groups.
How limiting is that. It's not like businessmen are all ogres. You generally do business with men and women - why limit yourself to just one group.
Sure, you might feel comfortable. But to be successful you need to push yourself.
