Failed Speech, Failed To Set Up Jack

by Brendon Sinclair on February 20, 2008

I did a speech today to a group I’ve spoken to a couple of times before – it was just okay.
Not that good, not a complete disaster.

  • I used a PowerPoint (which I don’t often do) and sure enough, the projector wasn’t working.
  • So we then went to a TV screen.
  • Then half way through we lost the power to the computer.

In my speech I showed some video and photos of my son Jack.

There were 10 beautiful girls from a local school at the function – in part of the speech I said:

“I want to make it absolutely clear to the girls from the college here today – Jack is single and available and I’m quite happy to give his number out to whoever asks.”

No takers.

So it was a complete loss!

Well Brendon I must say your presenation was a disaster and your angle about promoting your (and sons ) charity ride across Australia was blatant.
I have been to a previous business breakfast with the same crew many years ago and it actually inspired me to get into the web
but ………. I came expecting expert advice and all i got was talk about your bike ride?????????????
Dont get me wrong i have learnt a lot from you .but I must say i was dissapointed on the day

Howdy Dan

Thanks for the feedback.

It wasn’t even (truly) meant to promote the ride – the angle was more the strategic approach to what we were doing: especially the marketing side of that.

That it came across as blatantly promoting the ride means it was even worse than I thought!

Sorry if that last post came across a little insulting , it wasnt meant to be ..I confess I’d had a couple of beers before posting it. I realise you were drawing parallels with business marketing and promoting the bike ride.and in that respect it honestly wasnt so bad . but I was expecting (hoping for) a few web marketing tips.
c ya next time
cheers
