Gold Coast Accommodation Resorts

Here on the Gold Coast, Queensland there are literally hundreds of holiday accommodation resorts - after all, the Gold Coast is Australia's playground and we get millions of visitors each year. And all of these tourists accommodation.

1 June 2006: Burleigh on the Beach has just been accepted as one of Qantas' preferred Gold Coast accommodation resorts. A great feather in their cap for the recognition - check out Burleigh on the Beach for a top little resort at a great rate.

28 May 2006: Another perfect day here on the Gold Coast. The Sanctuary Cove Boat Show has just finished and was a huge success. Which means a lot of the resort empty out - grab a great hotel deal whilst you can!

26 May 2006: The team at Santana Resort, one of the Gold Coast's best budget accommodation places, is running some specials that are well worth a look. Do a Google search for "Santana Resort" for great deals.

24 May 2006: The Australian Outback Spectacular has opened here on the Gold Coast. It's an amazing show and well worth the money. It's next door to MovieWorld theme park (about a 15 km drive from the middle of the Gold Coast glitter strip.

23 May 2006: Winter is nearly upon us here in Australian, but it's a great time here on the Gold Coast. Accommodation is easy to find, it is cheap to book and the weather is a balmy 20-23 degrees C each day. Check out the resorts below for some terrific deals.

21 May 2006: A lot of publicity recently here on the Gold Coast about the need for tourists to fill up empty accommodation. Part of the reason is that Gold Coast accommodation resorts are struggling because the New Zealand dollar has plunged against the Australian dollar making it, in effect, far more expensive for New Zealanders to come and stay at Gold Coast resorts.

Keep that in mind next time you go to book accommodation on the Gold or Sunshine Coasts.

New Information 16 May 2006: For great deals on Gold Coast tours and day trips, museums and sightseeing ask your Gold Coast resort to book for you. Most resorts pass on discounts to local attractions.

Many Gold Coast resorts provide exceptional services with their tour desk and provide great discounts. Some tour desks don't provide discounts - shop around if you have to for the best deals on your Gold Coast tours and activities. Don't assume your accommodation on the Gold Coast will automatically provide the best deal - shop around.

Like I always say, the money is better off in your pocket than theirs.

Beware 'Official' Gold Coast Sites

18 May 2006: Beware 'official' Gold Coast accommodation sites - no names, but I've just taken a look at a web site that proclaims something along the lines of "Official Gold Coast Accommodation Booking Service Co-operative Web Site" along with an official looking badge. It means next to nothing.

What it means is that the owner has probably registered a name like "Gold Coast Accommodation Booking Service Co-operative" (I just made that up) and then puts up an official looking badge on his web site to try and fool people into thinking the site is some sort of authorative site. It's not any more official than any other site.

It really doesn't matter who you book with a lot of the time, but don't be fooled into booking with a person who uses sneaky tactics to make it look like they're something special when they're not. That's not right.

But it's hard to find the right accommodation here on the Gold Coast - after all, everyone says theirs is the best. Everyone says how close they are to the beach. Everyone says how they provide the best value.

I've even seen a resort about 20 minutes drive from the beach say they're "Close to the beach". You don't want that - some sneaky person ruining your Gold Coast holiday before it even starts. Where your Gold Coast accommodation is is critical. Here are my top tips:

Top 3 Gold Coast Tips For Accommodation

  • Get a resort close to the beach - there's nothing worse than having to trudge miles to hit the surf. After all, the beach is the biggest attraction. I'd recommend beachfront accommodation or, at the most, one street back. Resort managers tell me it's a bit of a pain living all the time right on the beach - the sand tends to build up - but for short stays it's perfect.
  • Get a resort close to Surfers Paradise - lots of the attractions are in Surfers Paradise and you don't want to waste your time travelling. Be aware that the main theme parks like DreamWorld, MovieWorld and Wet 'n' Wild are about 20 minutes drive away at Coomera (on the M1 Highway). There are no resorts out there. SeaWorld is the only one close to Surfers - it's about 3 km out of the middle of Surfers.
  • Look around for the best deal - there are some fantastic deals to be done because of the very healthy competition amongst resorts.

Recommended Accommodation - Surfers Paradise And Beyond

The Shore - nice quality 1 bedroom (sleep 4) apartments on the Esplanade at Surfers Paradise. About 800 m out of the middle of Surfers. The very friendly and downright nice Terry and Justine manage the place and the prices are crazily low (i.e From $72 per night). The best value resort on the Gold Coast.

Burleigh on the Beach - this resort is one for the bigger family. Situated at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast Highway (about 10 km out of Surfers Paradise) this resort is about 50 metres from the beautiful Burleigh Heads beach.

Xanadu Resort - Xanadu is a magnificent quality double tower resort at Main Beach (about 2 kms out of the middle of Surfers). Xanadu Resort is a street away from the beach and close to the very sophisticated boutiques and restaurants of Main Beach. A little more expensive than the other 2 resorts, but great value for what you get (You'll be staying in million dollar plus apartments).

And Late.com.au is currently being built as THE place to find the best holiday deals.

And, finally, here is a case study on a Gold Coast accommodation resort that we did a few years back. Hope it is of some interest.
