Mel (my beautiful wife), son Jack and I went to a function tonight where Jason Culina, soccer (football) star, was the main presenter.
My other son Harry is a big soccer fan and thinks Jason is pretty cool.
We went up and had a chat with Jason – he was kind enough to shoot a bit of video for us and mentioned Harry’s goal in his soccer Grand Final last week.
A Simple Result
The result is pretty simple.
One very happy Harry. Very, very happy.
Mel and I and Jack were thrilled that Jason helped us out and shot the video.
So by extension, Jason builds the positive brand and loyalty for himself and his team – Gold Coast United.
Whilst dealing with fans must get bloody tiring, Jason does it with charm and grace.
He was happy to chat and engage us.
Jason provides tremendous value to his club and his sport by taking the time to do what he does.
Not A Conscious Thing
It’s probably not a conscious “Gee, I’d better talk to these people because they buy tickets to our game” kind of thing.
It’s more that he’s been raised to be a fine young character.
And that matters in life, in sport and in business.
As a new club looking to help the game grow here in Australia, Gold Coast United needed a leader who is a fine young man, who understands the importance of engaging the fans and who works hard to help build the grassroots of the game.
Jason Culina is that guy.
After meeting him tonight it’s easy to see why he succeeds, why Gold Cast United will succeed and why soccer (football) in Australia will succeed.
Cheers
Brendon
P.S: I wrote about this a couple of years ago when Jack and I met cycling legend (he makes us call him that!) Robbie McEwen.
Since then Robbie has done a photo shoot with Jack, shot promo video, been his across Australia ride ambassador and done tons of other stuff to help Jack and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia out.
Great quality people who help others.

The bit I edited out of the video was “And Terry Hands is our best supporter!”
