Optus Music Store FAIL

by Brendon Sinclair on June 17, 2009

Just visited the Optus Music Store to buy some music and got this message:

“Our system has detected that you are using Mozilla Firefox or an alternative browser to Internet Explorer.

In order to browse our store, and purchase and download music, you will need to install an IE Tab extension. Please click here for an easy installation guide.”

I don’t need to install anything idiots.

YOU need to get your stuff compatible with Firefox.

Remember, it’s not about your needs as a seller.  It’s about my needs as a buyer.

Cheers

Brendon

What I find hilarious is that they know enough about Firefox and what addon is required to make the site compatible.

Was there a link to install the addon too?

On another kinda similar note, are any of your sites affected by the Opera 10 Y2K bug?

i have an optus mobile, home phone and broadband account and the service is fine, but every time i visit the website (optuszoo) i find myself in never ending loops of logons and redirects. the developers don’t seem to have heard the term ‘user friendly’

Hi Devon,

We strive to avoid JS detection as much as possible. When we have to, we’ll typically use feature detection instead of browser detection to avoid problems like this. I don’t anticipate this being an issue for us.

Diarmuid – You’re so very right. On a related note, this is an interesting read: Dustin Curtis writes to American Airlines.
