Hello. All the best for 2005.

Did you like the Subject Header for the email? It's a beauty!

Getting you to open the email is the goal of the Subject Header. Getting you to notice the article or ad is the goal of any headline. Headlines are critically important.

We'll take a quick look at that, as well as talk about managing the expectations of the client. There's also a general update on what we've been doing on the Tailored site (we've been adding lots).

    Happy reading!

"My Web Site Is A Waste Of Money!"

One of the more common issues we come up against in selling web sites is the client who already has a site and it hasn't worked for whatever reason.

Because the site has been poorly developed, or marketed, the client is (naturally) reluctant to redevelop the site - on the assumption that "Web sites don't work for my business."

When it's more likely a case of "My site is terrible and it hasn't been marketed effectively either."

Take a look at the article "My Web Site Doesn't Work - What Do I Need To Do?" to see if your web site is making basic mistakes.

Just send me a card with Best Wishes, don't try and sell me anything...and other stories.

Rebecca (pictured) has joined the team in the Office. Fresh from High School, Rebecca makes everyone feel old and haggard. She's fitted in well with a great work ethic, plenty of initiative and lots of enthusiasm.

It was my birthday in November and I received a few cards saying "Happy Birthday, here's a special offer." I also received 1 card from a supplier that simply said "Happy Birthday Brendon." I preferred the non-selling contact because I felt it was a more sincere acknowledgement of me as a person. Sometimes a non-selling contact will generate more goodwill, business and loyalty than an offer ever could. It's not always about selling - make it about building a relationship.

I've detailed my Top 14 List of Business Books in a recent article. Take a look for an inspirational read or 2.

I've reviewed an excellent book on Google Adwords - take a look under 'Products'.

Measure everything - this newsletter is heading out at 11.45 am on Friday morning. I've never tried Friday's before for any of our newsletters (heard Friday was bad because people are tired at the end of the week). But I figure you might be, like I often am, keen for something different on a Friday.

We're adding blogs at a rapid rate - Tom was the latest winner in a recent Blog for guessing my previous job. Can you guess what it was? Check the Blog for details.

Fish Found With A Human Face!

I was checking out the Australian News web site this morning - www.news.com.au - when I immediately saw this headline.

Of course I immediately clicked on the link to take me to the story - who wouldn't!

    What a fantastic headline!

Because headlines have to get your attention. And in today's overcrowded media world, it has to be a pretty impressive headline to get noticed.

When marketing your business, see what outrageous headline you can come up with and see what sort of response it gets.

I'll leave you with my all time favourite newspaper headline: Blind woman gets new kidney from dad she hasn't seen in years

I'll let you know if the open rate of this email is an increase on previous issues because of the crazy Subject Header. Have a good weekend.
