2 years ago I developed and managed a web site of my own. Total set up cost was $40. 4 weeks after launch that site made $2000,000 in 1 night! . It still goes strong to this day. 1 year ago I wrote The Web Design Business Kit. Sales have just reached $1 million. 12 weeks ago I set up, launched and started marketing another web site. Sales have grown since day one - we're on track for at least $2.7 million pa (sales so far today have been $7,500, yesterday was $4,200, day before $6,000, etc). Jo, Mel and I have probably spent a total of 50 hours developing that site and 8 hours a week on the marketing. And all that makes me sound pretty smart. But I'm actually pretty dopey. Read on to learn the lessons my little successes have taught me....and how they'll shape our future.
If you've been reading the Home Page blogs lately you'll know that a visitor had a little whinge about the new site design and layout. Whilst we appreciate feedback on the site - the redevelopment was based 80% on our visitor's suggestions - you just have to ignore some criticism! And here's 4 good reasons why:
Part of our business is managing some high profile businesspeople. Justin Herald (left) - www.justinherald .com - started a business with $50 - it's now a $15 million empire (just 6 years later). Justin is featured in the BRW magazine today for those in Australia - it's the "Young Rich" list. Barry Pickering - CEO of Onsite Direct - started with much the same just 2.5 years ago and now has one of Australia's fastest growing real estate companies. His sales for the year are forecast at $650 million! Both Justin and Barry spoke at a seminar on the weekend. Both were asked the same question numerous times. And the answer was always the same....
