The 5 Main Marketing Strategies For Your Web Site

by Brendon Sinclair on June 25, 2009

I’m often asked the best way to market a web site.

The answer is that there are a range of strategies that need to be implemented and the strategies to use vary from web site to web site.

You really need to understand the web site, the client and what they’re trying to achieve to provide the best marketing ideas.

You need a real sense of the brand and the objectives otherwise you simply can’t provide great advice.

2 Reasons I Say This

And I say all that stuff for 1 of 2 reasons (you can pick):

  1. I’m a highly paid Internet expert who has to justify his fees
  2. It’s true

Despite your pick (I know how you think)) it’s because it’s true.

We break down web marketing into 5 main strategies.

These strategies often overlap, but if you implement each one (and I’ll expand on each strategy in a later post) then you’ll have a well marketed web site.

5 Marketing Strategies

  1. Search Engine Marketing Strategy
  2. Social Media Strategy
  3. Content Strategy
  4. Branding Strategy
  5. Public Relations Strategy

Hi Brendon,

Your blog and your Web Design Business Kit have been, and remain, brilliant resources that help develop the knowledge of building and running a business for those who are techie at heart.

I’d guess that, similarly, many techies who have ventured into freelancing or running their own business may not know the practical steps in how to actually market a web site.

I know that, when I started, I was even put off by the term “strategy”. It sounds very grand, but I guess its just a list of things that you intend to do in each of those strands to achieve an objective.

This post is a great starting point and a reminder of the main elements to eMarketing.

Cheers

Surprised you separated 1 & 3. Many SEO problems are caused by “techies” [to quote seamus] not doing coding properly, many other ones are caused by not publishing about what you want to rank for.
